DIY Feathered Headband

Hi lovelies!  It has been a crazy busy couple of days. I spent all last week in Lubbock for training. By day 3 of waking up at 5:30, I was a zombie. On the final day we caught bad weather and had to come home early.

Along with training, our Bluprint class was preparing for our annual Bluprint banquet. This banquet is put together to fellowship, celebrate the past year and of course to celebrate the birth of Christ.

This years theme was the 1920s Gatsby.  The first thing I think of when I hear the 1920’s is prohibition and flapper dresses. I’m not going to lie, the first thing I said was, “ain’t no one putting this fluffy girl in a flapper dress!” Lol.

I decided to dress up in a black sparkly shirt, some black palazzo pants and gold and red accented jewelry. I still felt like something was missing though. I finally decided I needed some feathers in my life!

I decided to make this feathered headband to give my outfit that 1920’s pop!

(Yes I used my son as a model) 🙂

I got so many compliments on it! It was about 13 bucks to make with a lot of left over material. So I thought I would share how I made it. These are the supplies you need:
image

1 yard of black sequined elastic, a flower of your choice, black feathers, red feathers and a specialty feather, piece of black felt, scissors and hot glue gun. I bought all my supplies at Hobby Lobby.

image

I started by cutting a PERFECT circle the size of the back of the flower out of the felt.
image

Make sure it doesn’t exceed the size of the flower.  (Don’t glue it just yet!)

image

Measure the headband around you head and then tighten it a little so that it’s not too loose. Cut where you need to cut and then glue to the circle. The circle will go on the inside of the headband so be aware of how you glue it.  So it’ll be in between your head and the headband. 😉

image

Then just start gluing your feathers in the order you want! 🙂 I put my biggest feathers first then just worked the rest in.

image

This is what it looked like just before I added the flower.

image

The next thing I did was add my flower. My flower and a pin like this so instead of gluing it I just pinned it through the feathers, headband and the felt. I just felt it was more secure like that.

image

And it eliminated the bulge of excess glue.  Once it is pinned you are done! 🙂 It literally took me 10 minutes to make this cute headband. I think you can changed around the colors and minimize the feathers and you can make a cute casual headband.

The Bible App for Kids

I have long awaited the creation of a good Bible app for my son. All the apps I would download were not very entertaining or for older kids.

image

This Thursday the YouVersion family released the new Bible app for kids! I was so excited and downloaded it right away. Since yesterday was pretty busy, I was not able to get into the app and take a look around. This morning my son found the app while playing on our tablet. He was automatically hooked! I sat with him for a while and I must say I am definitely impressed.

Life Church is behind the  YouVersion family.  The YouVersion Bible is my go to Bible app. It is quick, easy and self explanatory.  The kids app is that and so much more. It covers 7 Bible storys from Genesis to the empty tomb and notates that more stories will be coming soon. Which will help our kids stay engaged!

image

Not only does the app read each Bible story out loud but it also provides animated illustrations that move as you touch each one.

image

I was also impressed by the way the app challenges the user with questions and rewards.

image

The only thing I wasn’t too crazy about was that I had to download each story. It really isn’t that big of a deal compared to the rest of the great qualities this app has.

This app is amazing. If you are a mom I definitely encourage you to download it for your children!  What an awesome way to learn the word of God. My 4 year old has loved it! Here are some photos of him navigating through it!

God bless you – Moni ❤

Bluprint Marriages

It has been such a busy couple of days. I’ve tried to make some time to write a little bit but it just wasn’t happening. With the holidays right around the corner, I’ve been getting slammed with wreath orders (Yay for extra money!), but its taken a lot of my time. Then Amarillo was hit with a minor snow storm on Saturday. I’m not going to lie though, I really loved the snow. image

Despite the snow outside, I did everything BUT have a snow day! During the day I finished up the wreaths and my husband and I cleaned our house that had been slightly neglected for a couple of days.  Oops!

That afternoon we had our monthly Bluprint Marriages gathering.  Bluprint Marriages has been going on for about a year and it has absolutely blessed our marriage. It is organized by our sweet friends Stephanie and  Anthony.  This month my brother and sister-in-law hosted it at their beautiful new home.  Saturday had to be the best BP Marriages I had ever been too. I think we all needed a pick me up before the holidays.  We began with God’s word in which we studied Ephesians 5:21-33. After our study we had delicious tortilla soup that Stephanie made for us (I’m hoping she will give me the recipe soon!).

We had a newly engaged couple join us, Johan and Monica. I’m sure we all thought that BPM was going to bless them, and I’m sure it did; however, they blessed us so much more. After supper, we played a “game” that ended being so much more.  The husbands were asked to rewrite their vows to their wives and we would vote on the most creative.  All of our husbands did an amazing job; however, when it came time to vote it was clear that Johan had stole the show. To see how absolutely in love he is with his new fiancée was so refreshing to the rest of the marriages who had already been married a couple of years. It took us back to that time in our marriages.

Through Him I Can

It’s finally Saturday! Whoop whoop! I haven’t gotten much sleep this past week and last night was no different. I have so many things going on in my mind, people to help, parties to plan and my house to clean.

This week has been pretty heavy. I work with low income and high risk families here in Amarillo and with the holidays coming up we really want to make this season special for these kiddos. This week, with the help of a local radio station, my coworkers and I started to plan a huge 3 day toy drive. God is so good to our program. We thought the station was only going to help us do a quick 4 hour, Saturday morning toy drive…but noooo they want to do a 3 DAY toy drive!

That being said, the enemy has really been attacking me. Putting negative thoughts in my head like, “What if we can’t do it.” Or “What if we don’t receive enough donated toys.”

It’s really ridiculous that I would even think such a thing.

Deuteronomy 28:1-14

28 If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:

3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.

5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.

6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

7 The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.

8 The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 9 The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. 11 The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestockand the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 12 The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

Wow.

How beautiful is it that God rewards us with his blessings for our obedience to Him…and most of the time we don’t even have to ask for them!

The enemy tries to slither in to tell us we aren’t able…or that we lack the qualities to accomplish…but God is here to tell us…with me ALL things are POSSIBLE!

AMEN! I want all that GOODNESS our Father has to offer…because he is…he is so so good to us.

I woke up with this message on my mind, worship in my heart and the song above in my head…and now I’m a big ball of emotion…good emotion. 🙂

If the enemy is telling you that you can’t, you are not able, you are not worthy, you are not qualified, you don’t have it in you, you are too tired…I want to tell you that YES you can, YES you are able, YES you are worthy, with Jesus you are more than qualified, you are alive in Him, He will restore your energy if you look to Him.

It’s a beautiful cycle.

Live through Him and the rest will fall into place. 🙂

I needed this message today. 🙂

-Moni<3

Lord, I seek you this morning with a humbled heart. Thank you for your blessings…blessings that I sometimes don’t even deserve. I am human and stray from your path often, but Lord you are so good to me that you continue to carry me even when I am broken. Father I ask that you take the reigns of every seed I have in my heart. That you guide me in the direction I need to go. I pray that you fill me with your supernatural energy to live for you every day…that may everything I do glorify your sweet name and that every person I come in contact with be blessed in your holy name and that they may be touched by your Holy Spirit. Lord I thank you. I thank you for this beautiful life you allow us to live. I pray that you help me continue to live it for you. I pray all these things in your beautiful name.

Amen.

Kari Jobe on Worship – The Lady Who Touched Jesus in Faith

I’ve watched this preaching a million times. I shared it with a friend yesterday and decided to watch it again. It’s amazing how God reveals something different each time I watch this.

This is only part 3 of the video and the part that really moved me today.

Being a follower of God’s Word is not easy. We face the world’s opposition every day and sometimes we are set apart. In the video, Kari tells us the story of the woman out casted by the city because of their culture and beliefs of the sick being unclean. Believing in the miracles that Jesus had been doing in other cities, she finds the courage to go into the city and face the opposition and ridicule to possibly be healed. She eventually makes it to Jesus and faithfully touches the tip of his garment and is healed.

I’ve always thought this scripture was just about faith, and it is; however, tonight God has really put in my heart to be as courageous as this woman and not be defined by my culture.

Lord, I want to be as courageous and brave as she was. I truly believe that our generation has been called for this….to stand up for the Word of God. My Pastor, Iris, always mentions to us that our generation has been called to be radical for the love of God. Now its up to us to decide how radical we want to be.

I’m not saying it’s easy…because I know first hand it’s not. The enemy attacks us from every which way and makes it easier than ever to conform to the ways of the world but when will we say enough is enough!

I encourage you to evaluate your role as a follower of Christ in society. I realized that I needed to step it up. I find myself keeping my mouth shut when God is tugging at me to speak up. Imagine all the blessings we are missing out on because we are worried about what society is going to think about us. Had this woman not gone to look for Jesus in the city she would have struggled with her disease for the rest of forever but instead she was blessed with healing. Don’t let the enemy rob you of your blessings.

Romans 12:2 ESV

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Blessings – Moni ❤

Living a Thankful Life

It’s November ya’ll!  I can’t believe we are approaching the holiday season so soon. This year has been a year on ups and downs…but mostly ups. I’ve learned to live…in Him…laugh…at the enemy…and love…just to love. I started a new job. I started singing again. I built new relationships with amazing friends. There is just so much to be thankful for.

I’ve never been good at the whole 30 days of thankfulness on social media.  I usually start late or forget a couple days.  I don’t mean to bash anyone that does it; however, we should be this thankful every single day of the year.  If we made it our mission to post what we are thankful for every day, our blessings would noticeably take over our burdens.

I started a new job this year in working not only with lower income and less fortunate families, but families that are dealing with tough situations.  It was an absolute eye opener and made me realize how selfish and inconsiderate I can be sometimes.

Some families in our community have NOTHING. Parents are sleeping on floors to let their children sleep on the only bed they have. Kids are going to school hungry. Some families are struggling with illnesses and parents are doing without medication to be able to put food on the table. It is a very real truth here in the Texas panhandle.  Although many families in our community struggle for very different reasons I have found one thing they all have in common…they are THANKFUL for what they do have.

I have yet to meet a family that is bitter because of the situation they are going through. I always sense a speck of HOPE and GRATITUDE.  I can’t help but think…Gosh, I’m such a horrible person. I have a home. I have a healthy family. I have food. I have a job. I have transportation. I have so much more than I could ever need…but yet sometimes I so easily let the enemy get in the way of my gratitude. That, my friend, is a sad situation.

In a season when it is socially acceptable to want…want…and want some more, I’m challenging myself to make it my priority to be excessively grateful for the life God has blessed me with. I encourage you to do the same.  I know it will not only bless you but also bless any who witness your gratitude.  I also encourage you to give a little more, not only material donations but give your time and share the love that Christ has shared with you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Ps. I’m thankful for painted skies!
